Road to PrimeFaces 6.3

Road to PrimeFaces 6.3

PrimeFaces 6.3 is under active development and here are the 3 upcoming big ticket features.

Nova Theme Family

Nova themes are the new default face of the Prime UI Suites, initially PrimeNG has received the Nova update and PrimeFaces version is being worked on at the moment. Nova is generated by the PrimeFaces Theme Designer and has a premium look and feel while being open source and free. Note that current free themes will be deprecated in favor of Nova as they look outdated.

See the Nova in action at PrimeNG demo to get an idea of what is coming up.

New Calendar

PrimeFaces calendar uses jQuery UI datepicker which limits us from adding new features, for PrimeNG and PrimeReact we have our own calendar component and for 6.3, new DatePicker will be introduced featuring various new features such as multiple date selection, range selection and touch UI mode. See the PrimeNG version to find out more about the upcoming PrimeFaces DatePicker as feature set will be the same.

New Chart Components

PrimeFaces Chart components use jqPlot which is an outdated library with no maintenance, for PrimeNG and PrimeReact we’re utilizing Chart.js, a modern and easy to use charting library. PrimeFaces 6.3 will receive new chart components based on Chart.js.

Accessibility and Security

In addition to the new features, accessibility and security will be our top priorities along the way.

First release candidate is planned for mid Q4 2018 and final release in early Q1 2019. Despite the rise of javascript based front-end frameworks, PrimeFaces is still one of the most popular UI libraries for Java especially in corporate environments with heavy form processing and we’ll keep modernizing it to make sure it is up to date with the latest trends.

Always bet on Prime!!!

For the date picker time only it would be nice to have an option to make it look like Google Calendar time picker. In fact for mobile It is the best experience.

Keep the great work, I’m already looking for 6.3!

Thanks for the great work over all these years 🙂

    Just a Small typo:
“we have our own calendar component and for 6.2, new DatePicker will be …”
    I guess you meant 6.3.

Great news. Any updates to the internal jQuery version used and maybe upgrade the icons to FontAwsome 5.2?
